As promised to our lovely Vegetable CSA members, here is the Filipino cabbage roll recipe! Love Mom and all the wonderful food she raised her kids & grandkids on 🙂

Subject: cabbage roll recipe
1 head cabbage (about 1k.)
1/4 k  beef, ground
1/4 k. pork,  ground
1 onion, minced
1 1/2 tsps. salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp oregano
1/2 c. rice (raw) optional
1 c. tomato sauce or 1 c. fresh tomatoes, chopped
Boil cabbage for 5 minutes.  Remove from water and separate leaves.  Mix remaining ingredients together except tomatoes.  Stuff leaves with filling and roll.  Fasten with toothpick. Arrange in a saucepan.  Pour tomatoes, cover and simmer about 1  1/2 hr.
Paula, I checked:  1 kilo is equal to 2.2046 lbs. You do the math for the recipe. :)) I think if you use raw rice in the stuffing, then you’d need to simmer it for that length of time.  Otherwise, 30 minutes would be sufficient, or you can say until meat is cooked.  I’ve used all beef which cooks quicker.  One can use ground turkey too. Try it yourself.  Enjoy.
